Ragi Murukku

Idli or idly are a type of savoury rice cake, originating from the Indian subcontinent, popular as breakfast foods in southern India and among Tamils in Sri Lanka. The cakes are made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented black lentils and millet.

Ingredients

  1. Fingermillet powder - 500 gm
  2. Blackgram - 250 gm
  3. Fenugreek seeds - 10 gm
  4. Salt - as per taste

Directions

  1. Take a big bowl and add finger millet powder and rice powder into it.
  2. Add cumin seeds, salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder, Asafetida (Hing), sesame seeds to the bowl and mix it well.
  3. Take a small pan and heat 50 ml of refined oil till it becomes light hot. Pour the light hot oil into the mixture.
  4. Add 2 glasses of water to the mixture and mix it till it becomes smooth dough.
  5. Fill the dough in hand operated muruku making machine.
  6. Heat the oil in a pan.
  7. Once oil is heated, Add dough to the hot oil through hand operated muruku making machine. Deep fry the muruku in oil on low flame until it turns brown.
  8. After frying, put the muruku on tissue paper to absorb excess oil and to cool.
  9. Muruku is ready to be served as an evening snack.
